Smart money says Leeds edge out second-tier returnees Burnley

Published:

Burnley assume favouritism or their opening day trip to Leeds, with a price of 6/4 saying Sean Dyche’s recently-relegated side return to the second tier in victorious fashion.

Support for the Clarets is anything but unanimous, however, with their Yorkshire hosts a smidge longer in the betting at 7/4, while 23/10 reckons the teams remain in deadlock come the final whistle.

Elland Road has been surprisingly bereft of scandal this summer, with the club instead making moves in the transfer market.

New boss Uwe Rosler has spent over £5m improving the spine of his side, with Sol Bamba, Stuart Dallas and Chris Wood acquired to bolster the defence, midfield and attack respectively.

Elsewhere, Champions League-winning keeper Ross Turnbull continues his whistle stop tour of the country’s largest county having signed on a free from Barnsley.

Somewhat predictably, Burnley have seen the core of their side decimated following relegation, with Danny Ings the most high-profile of their losses.

Skipper Jason Shackell has been swiped too, as has flying right-back Kieran Trippier.

Based on transfer activity, Leeds look to be in better shape, making their odds to win the most appealing from Ladbrokes’ match-betting buffet.

However, for those aiming to win bigger, backing the hosts to do the bizzo by a one-goal margin is the way to go.

It’s on offer at 7/2 and would’ve rewarded those to make the same bet in each of Leeds’ last four first matches of the season in front of the Elland Road faithful.

Even the short-lived David Hockaday managed to uphold the trend, beating Accrington Stanley in the Capital One Cup in his home debut, then repeating the trick in toppling eventual play-off finalists Middlesbrough at the end of the same week.

It’s not only Burnley’s ravaged ranks that have left them prone to defeat; Dyche’s troops have failed to prevail in three of their last four opening matches.

A one-goal Leeds victory isn’t the only great value wager Ladbrokes have on the match though; take a look at these enhanced alternatives:
