SPFL Round-Up: Peterhead steal the headlines against Pars

Published:

There’s a new team at the top of Ladbrokes League 1 while the pressure continues to mount on Barry Ferguson and his Clyde outfit in the basement division.

The game of the weekend in League 1 took place at Balmoor Stadium as Peterhead beat the league leaders Dunfermline 2-1.

The Pars had been sweeping all before them but a trip to the Highlands is never easy, and inspired by the in-form Rory McAllister, the Blue Toon prevailed.

The slip-up from the Fifers allowed Forfar to take over at the top. The Station Park outfit ran out easy 4-1 winners over Stenhousemuir to make it three wins in a row.

Elsewhere, Cowdenbeath recorded their first win of the season with narrow 1-0 win over Albion Rovers.

Airdrie won the battle of the pointless clubs after a 2-1 victory on the road at Brechin.

And in the fifth and final fixture, Ayr United recorded their second win of the season away at Stranrear.

Tight at the top as Elgin lose their 100 per cent record

There is now a six-way log jam at the top of League 2. After the weekend’s set of results Elgin, East Fife, Montrose, East Stirling and Berwick all find themselves on six points.

Elgin lost their perfect record after they lost on their trip south to Methil with East Fife making it back-to-back wins thanks to Nathan Austin’s winner on the hour mark.

Montrose and Clyde looked set for a 0-0 stalemate until two late strikes from Graham Webster and Gary Fraser sent the home fans home from Links Park in a happy mood.

In other action, Berwick bounced back from a heavy 5-0 defeat last time out to record a fine 3-1 away win against Stirling.

A Nathan Shepherd double guided East Stirling to a comfortable home win against Annan and Queen’s Park condemned Arbroath to a third staright defeat, leaving the Red Lichties rooted to the foot of the table.
