Sunderland upping their efforts to land £15m Senegal striker

| 02.08.2015

If Dick Advocaat wants to avoid a relegation battle with Sunderland this season, he needs to find a regular source of goals.

Steven Fletcher and Jermain Defoe are the main hopes in that department for the Black Cats, but the Dutch tactician clearly feels additional firepower is required, with Fenerbahce striker Moussa Sow pegged as the man to provide a boost.

Connor Wickham is thought to be on his way to Crystal Palace and Danny Graham hasn’t been a regular in the north east for some time, so additional support is an obvious requirement one week out from the start of the Premier League campaign.

The Stadium of Light outfit have already had one bid for the Senegal international rejected, but haven’t been thrown of the scent of their target and have returned with a second offer, according to the Sunday Mirror.

After an initial £12m offer was rebuffed, Advocaat has upped his bid by £3m, hoping it will be enough to convince the Turkish club to do a deal.

Sow has made over 100 appearances for Fenerbahce since signing for the club in 2012, scoring 51 goals in all competitions in that time.

An impressive record, the 29-year-old has been a proven goalscorer since entering the prime of his career.

82 games for Rennes at the start of his career only brought 12 goals, but following 2010 switch to Lille, the French-born forward found his scoring touch.

31 strikes in 54 games for the former Ligue 1 champions helped earn him his move to Turkey, where scoring goals has become second nature.

With Ladbrokes tagging Sunderland as 7/4 fourth favourites for the drop this term, the club will certainly hope that an upped bid for the striker will help bring him to the club.

Should he arrive, Sow will join Dutch international Jeremain Lens in a new-look forward line for Advocaat’s side.
