Derek McInnes named Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month

After guiding his Aberdeen team to five consecutive victories to maintain their 100 per cent record Derek McInnes has been named the Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month for August.

Victories over Dundee United, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Dundee and Partick Thistle ensure that the Dons head into Saturday’s battle with Celtic just one point behind the Bhoys with a game in hand.

The feat of recording a quintet of victories at the start of the campaign has only been matched once by the Pittodrie side, and fans will be hoping it is an omen of sorts.

Back in 1984, Alex Ferguson took a perfect 15 from the first 15 available to give Aberdeen the best possible start to a season, going on to guide them to the title the following summer.

That achievement is still a long way off according to the odds, with a price of 14/1 suggesting McInnes will need to continue the good work at the helm in the coming months.

This latest gong marks the fourth time the 44-year-old has landed the award since being appointed manager two years ago, and if his players continue in the same vein of form it certainly won’t be the last.

Home form could be key with neither of the two visitors in the Ladbrokes Premiership this term finding the back of the net at Pittodrie, and this weekend’s fixture with the defending champions will be the acid test.
