Another Liverpool talisman may be tempted into Barca move

| 22.09.2015

Barcelona will look to christen the lifting of their transfer embargo in January by poaching Liverpool’s latest indispensable star, according to one Spanish press outlet.

Having already lured world class talent Luis Suarez to the Camp Nou from Anfield, football website Fichajes claim Barca are eyeing up Philippe Coutinho, who has become the Reds’ creative hub since the Uruguayan left.

The silky Brazilian playmaker is the one man on Liverpool’s books who consistently sparks attacks and drives the team forward, regularly forging himself the space to do so with mesmerising footwork.

Gaining a technician of Coutinho’s quality is clearly an attractive prospect to Luis Enrique, whose all-conquering Catalans are built around a similar profile of player, while Pedro’s recent move to Chelsea has created an obvious vacancy in the squad.

Coutinho’s connections to Barca forward Neymar and former teammate Suarez is also a concern for Liverpool, as 2/3 of the deadliest forward line in world football would have little trouble selling the club off the back of their resounding success last season.

Recent public praise from Neymar following their rendezvous on Brazil duty only adds unwanted attention to the situation from a Liverpool perspective too.

Neymar said: “I see many Brazilian players with quality today. But one that I like and I think could play here is Coutinho. He has the style of Barcelona.”

Naturally Liverpool would do everything in their power to keep their number 10 at Anfield, especially after tying him down to a new long-term deal back in February.

However, with a top-four challenge already faltering – Liverpool are out to 7/2 down in 13th after six games – Coutinho’s head may be turned unless fortunes improve dramatically between now and January.
