Gary Naysmith: We’ve played some of our best stuff against Clyde

East Fife take on Clyde this weekend looking to avoid a third straight defeat in Ladbrokes League 2.
The Fifers had a great start to the season, with manager Gary Naysmith being crowned manager of the Month after three wins from four games, but defeats to Annan Athletic and Arbroath since have the Bayview boss admitting that the great start is in danger of being downgraded to average.
However, Naysmith is confident ahead of the weekend’s clash with Clyde, having been impressed with his side’s performances against the Bully Wee last season despite taking just a single point the from four meetings.
“We do need to get better results but if you speak to Clyde they’ll tell you we played some of our best stuff against them last season,” he told Ladbrokes News.
“We’re hoping for a similar level of performance this time round just with a better result.”
However, while the former Hearts and Everton man is bullish about his chances against Clyde, he expects the Cumbernauld outfit to be challenging for the title this season.
“Barry Ferguson has recruited well there. The pitfall in my squad is inexperience but Barry has two or three who have dropped down from Championship level and they’ve done that as they want to play for Barry.,” he added.
“No disrespect but I don’t think those players go there if Barry isn’t in charge.”
He may have a young squad at his disposal but Naismith is still aiming high and claims his title winning hopes will be given a shot in the arm with a win this weekend.
“We want to win the league but if we can’t do that we need to be in the play-offs,” he explained.
“We want to beat Clyde as we don’t want a six-point gap at this early stage of the season, even if you win three or four games on the run later in the campaign it can be very difficult to claw points back.”
The Fifers go into the clash as slight 27/20 favourites, with Clyde priced at 33/2 0 and the draw available at 5/2.
