Langfield’s frustrations clear as St Mirren boss shortens for the chop

A terrible start to the campaign has seen the pressure really start to mount on St Mirren boss Ian Murray, as his side continue to find themselves left behind in the race for a Ladbrokes Premiership return.
One win and two draws from their opening seven matches puts the Paisley outfit in eighth place, at risk of facing the prospect of a relegation play-off.
Prior to a ball being kicked The Buddies were 3/1 for promotion, behind only Rangers and Hibs, but any hope of that looks to be fading with the price for a top-flight return now 14/1.
Murray’s start to his reign at St Mirren Park hasn’t gone well, and it appears that certain sections of the support are starting to feel uneasy at the thought of a full season under the former Dumbarton gaffer.
His side’s recent form has seen the 34-year-old shorten and shorten in Ladbrokes’ ‘Next Championship Manager to Leave’ market, now making him the 2/1 favourite.
A 2-1 defeat to Raith Rovers last week following a late goal from Grant Anderson highlighted a similar trait in St Mirren’s performances this season.
Three of their four defeats this term have come when their opponents scored a goal in the final five minutes of the match, and it is something goalkeeper Jamie Langfield has grown frustrated with.
“We can keep on making excuses but we are switching off at the wrong time. There’s no point in dominating games for 45 or 90 minutes then switching off for a minute,” he told the Evening Times.
“It’s great knowing we have been playing well or we are creating chances but the bottom line is if you come away with no points it doesn’t matter”.
Heed the former Aberdeen man’s advice and it wouldn’t be hard to see them climbing the table, but that looks to be easier said than done.
Next up for the Championship strugglers comes a real test with a trip to Hibernian for which visitors are priced up at 15/4 for success.
Defeat at Easter Road could put even more pressure on the man at the helm, with his odds for the chop likely to shorten even further.
