Morton have the minerals to blemish Rangers’ perfect start

Published:

Rangers’ phenomenal start to the season was finally halted by Premiership outfit St Johnstone in the League Cup, but while most observers will expect Mark Warburton’s side to jump straight back on the winning horse in the Ladbrokes Championship, Morton may have other ideas.

Off the back of seven consecutive league wins to kick things off in 2015/16, Rangers have shot into 1/28 to take the leap back to the Premiership as champions.

However, there were signs that the Gers steam train was running a little low on coal during a slightly gritty win over Dumbarton away from Ibrox and now St Johnstone have provided another reality check, a solid Morton outfit can make life difficult for the Glasgow giants on their travels.

The match odds appear to make a mockery of this theory, with Warburton’s league leaders the heavy 2/9 favourites, the Ton 10/1 shots and the draw a 5/1 chance at Cappielow Park.

Nevertheless, the hosts have been particularly difficult to get the better of in the Championship this season, which makes the draw look a particularly plump price.

Only Hibernian have gotten the better of Jim Duffy’s outfit in the second tier this season, and even that was a narrow 1-0 defeat at Easter Road.

Morton haven’t lost since that game midway through August so their stubborn nature could well frustrate Rangers in this televised Sunday clash, rendering the 3/1 on the hosts in the double chance market a potential corker.

It is worth noting that Ladbrokes are running a couple of specials on the game however, including a price boost on Rangers to win a game in which both teams to score, out from 7/4 to 9/4.

Being a televised game this Ladbrokes Championship clash is also eligible for the Sharp Shooter offer* on first goalscorer bets.

On that front there is no one in better nick than Championship top scorer Martyn Waghorn for the visitors, at 11/4.
