St Mirren v Raith Rovers: Visitors’ road woes point to few goals

Published:

St Mirren host Raith Rovers in Friday night’s Ladbrokes Championship action with both sides probably wishing they were occupying the opposite changing room.

The Buddies have claimed just one point in front of their own fans so far this term, while The Rovers are winless, and scoreless, on their travels.

Had this been the reverse fixture it would be a different story entirely. St Mirren have claimed four of their five points on the road, while Rovers, in a polar opposite form line, have won all three of their home games, scored all seven of their goals and conceded none of their eight.

As it is, Ladbrokes customers are faced with a match in which something, surely, has to give.

The bookmaker hands favourite-status to Ian Murray’s hosts at 10/11 to win, with Raith 13/5 to pick up a first road victory, while a share of the spoils is priced at 5/2.

Considering the Kirkcaldy club’s severe troubles when leaving Stark’s Park though, it seems an investment in the 20/21 on there being under 2.5 goals in the game looks like a safe path to take.

Granted, St Mirren have shipped in all three home games thus far and Raith’s first three away days have been to Falkirk, Hibernian and Rangers – the top three teams in the Championship.

However, a Challenge Cup defeat to League One’s Stenhousemuir, also on the road and also to nil, helps to ram home just how abject Rovers are on their travels.

The Buddies are 12/5 to win without conceding, while Ladbrokes have boosted the hosts to win with both teams scoring from 9/4 to 3/1.
