Now is the time to cash in on Kane’s quiet start to the season

Given the incredible way in which Harry Kane announced himself to the Premier League last season, the young Tottenham striker was always going to be under more pressure to deliver the second time around.

A quiet start to the new season in a Spurs shirt – Kane is yet to get off the mark – has invited some scrutiny, but punters should be wiser than to write the PFA Young Player of the Year off as a one-season wonder.

Speaking ahead of England’s Euro 2016 qualifiers, Kane himself is certainly not wavering in the self belief that propelled him to 31 goals for the Lilywhites last season, 21 of which came in the Premier League to leave him as the second-highest scorer.

“I don’t think last year was lucky. I worked very hard to get where I was,” said Kane.

“As a striker you always go through spells when you’re on fire and sometimes it doesn’t go your way, but I’m full of self-belief that I’ve got goals in me.”

Indeed, the lull of the international break presents the perfect opportunity for Ladbrokes customers to back Kane each-way to go one better in 2015/16 and top the Premier League scoring charts.

Having drawn a blank thus far, the Walthamstow wonder has slipped behind the likes of Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson in the betting.

Kane now offers phenomenal value at 25/1 to become top scorer – when Ladbrokes will pay out at a quarter of the odds on the first four places.

The prospect of the Spurs star getting some game time for England against San Marino should also aid the timing of this punt.

By bagging for Roy Hodgson’s side against the minnows it could light the scoring touch paper on Kane’s domestic season.

Tottenham’s number 10 displayed too many trappings of a top-class striker last season to be waved off as a flash in the pan, not least an ability to score all kinds of goals.

As the undisputed first-choice frontman at White Hart Lane, it’s only a matter of time before the floodgates open.
