West Brom net closing around Liverpool left-back in final hours

One transfer which looks like it will make the Deadline Day bus in the nick of time is a switch to West Brom for Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique.

According to the Sky Sports reporter camped outside Liverpool’s Melwood training ground, club sources have confirmed that the Spanish full-back is only a medical away from rubber-stamping his Baggies move.

With West Brom’s makeshift left-back Joleon Lescott also on the move to Midlands rivals Aston Villa during the final hours of the transfer window, it looks like good business to plug the hole with Enrique.

The former Newcastle left-back isn’t the only Reds reject to have found their way to the Hawthorns this summer either, after striker Rickie Lambert joined Pulis’ ranks a prior to the season starting.

A promising Anfield career that saw Enrique spend two seasons as first-choice left-back has stalled badly thanks to injuries over the past couple of campaigns.

The emergence of young signing Joe Gomez from Charlton this summer ensured Brendan Rodgers ostracised Enrique further and when he was left out of the Reds’ pre-season tour, a move away appeared inevitable.

Pulis will be hoping the naturally left-sided defender gives his side a better balance at the back, providing he can leave his injury woes on Merseyside.
