It all returns on Tuesday; the best players, the epic music and thankfully, this year, not Clive Tyldesley. The Champions League is back in business as Europe’s top teams look to be crowned the continent’s finest. Here we take a look at those who can get you off to the perfect start in our 10/1 four-fold.
PSV v Man United – Man United 21/20
The Red Devils are back in the big time and they couldn’t have been handed a much better group. PSV came out of Pot 1, meaning United avoided most of the better teams.
Louis van Gaal’s men got another win against Liverpool at the weekend, and despite them not playing consistently well, their confidence will be sky high. The visitors have a 75% win ratio against Dutch sides and, in Memphis Depay, they have PSV’s best player from last season amongst their ranks.
The Premier League side have won eight of their previous 12 Champions League group games and should have too much for the Eredivisie outfit.
Man City v Juventus – Man City 8/11
Manuel Pellegrini’s men have, quite simply, been the best team in the English top-flight. They have won every game and are yet to concede a goal. In stark contrast, Juventus have a made a disastrous start to their title defence in Serie A, and are yet to win this term.
The Citizens are likely to be without Sergio Aguero, but with Wilfriend Bony likely to come in and David Silva set to return, they should shine on home soil.
PSG v Malmo – PSG -2 Evens
The French champions are already sitting pretty at the top of Ligue 1 and are undefeated in their opening five matches. This could be the year that they make a real impact in this competition.
The Parisians have been consistent in recent seaons, making the quarter-finals for three years in a row, and they couldn’t ask for a better start to this campaign. Malmo are the weakest club in Group A by some margin. West Brom flop Markus Rosenberg is their star man, which doesn’t bode well for a team competing on Europe’s biggest stage.
Sevilla v Borussia Monchengladbach – Sevilla 11/20
Last year’s Europa League winners are rightly part of this season’s Champions League and they have the ability to make a real impact. Crucial to their potential success will be their home form.
Los Rojiblancos have lost just two of their last 39 games on their own patch, and teams will find it hard to leave Seville with anything.
Monchengladbach have lost all four of their Bundesliga games this term, conceding 11 goals in the process and will struggle in Spain.
