A damning dossier on ousted Liverpool boss’ Anfield tenure

Three years and four months later, the Premier League’s second-longest serving manager is out of work.

Brendan Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool an hour after the club’s 1-1 draw at Everton at the weekend, clearing the path for Jurgen Klopp to succeed the Northern Irishman and ridding top-flight football of one its most parodied characters.

No one aspect of his tenure in Merseyside will dominate the memory. Instead Rodgers’ reign will be looked back on in a collection of his infamous quotes, heavy spending sprees and trophyless times.

Five wins in 17 top-flight outings, spanning the fag end of last season and the beginning of the current campaign, became form that Fenway Sports Group could no longer tolerate.

The 6-1 defeat to Stoke City in the middle of that poor run acted as the poster for his sacking, but ultimately an array of reasons could be given for the former Swansea man’s departure.
