Five outside bets to top score at Euro 2016

Given his amazing run of goals in recent weeks and the fact that Germany, France and Spain are the three favourites to win Euro 2016 it is difficult to look past the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Karim Benzema and Diego Costa for a top scorer next summer.

However, the current qualifying campaign has seen a number of attacking players come to the fore and if these players can carry their form into the tournament proper there could be some great value to be had.

Artem Dzyuba – Russia @ 33/1

The Zenit star’s seven strikes in qualifying may have been boosted by a four-goal haul in the 7-0 rout over Lichtenstein but the 27-year-old is in fine form on the domestic front too.

A total of six goals in 12 games for his club side, including four in his last four, hint at a player on the rise and a kind draw for the tournament could see him set out an early stall.

Wayne Rooney – England @ 16/1

The Manchester United and England captain’s domestic strike rate is a cause for concern but things could hardly be going better for Rooney on the international front. A total of seven goals from eight qualifying games have taken Wazza to the 50 mark to make him the Three Lions all-time top scorer.

Tougher tests await but next summer could be the Rooney delivers on the international stage for the first time since 2004.

Kyle Lafferty – Northern Ireland @ 50/1

Lafferty may be injured for the Northern Ireland’s upcoming fixtures but if Michael O’Neill’s side make it to the finals it will be largely down to the Norwich man’s goals.

Seven goals from eight games in qualifying has shown the Canaries what the 28-year-old can produce when given the chance.

Top scoring in the summer may be a tall order but with the new set-up of the tournament offering unfancied teams a better chance of success an each-way punt on the former Rangers, Palermo and Burnley man could pay dividends.

Gareth Bale – Wales @ 25/1

Recently named Wales’ Player of the Year for a record fifth time, Real Madrid star Bale has almost single-handedly put his country on the brink of qualifying for a major tournament for the first time since 1958.

With six goals in eight games throughout qualifying but just two for Madrid so far this season it is clear what Bale can achieve when the focal point of a team.

Arkadiusz Milik – Poland @ 40/1

Operating in the shadow of Robert Lewandowski is not an enviable task, with the Bayern Munich man in red hot form and grabbing all the headlines for club and country.

Ajax striker Milik more than holds his own in the Poland set-up, however, netting six times in qualifying to sit joint fourth in the standings.

Any injury to Lewandowski and the 21-year-old looks ready and willing to fill the void.
