Ladbrokes League 2: Annan can protect Galabank fortress

Published:

The intriguing melee at the summit of Ladbrokes League 2 has been the subject of much discussion this season but this could be the weekend where one side finally lays down a marker.

Current table-toppers Annan Athletic are the team in question and they’re our headline selection ahead of a mouth-watering clash with Queen’s Park.

Here’s your weekly preview…

Annan Athletic v Queen’s Park

Both of these sides have been in good form recently and upon first inspection you could put a proverbial cigarette paper between them.

However, we’re going to stick our necks on the line and plump for the hosts given their superb record on their own patch.

Unbeaten at Galabank, Annan have only tasted defeat three times in their last 18 league games in Dumfries.

Queen’s Park are no mugs on their travels but their successes have come against the lesser lights of the division and they were beaten by Athletic on the opening day.

Best Bet: Annan to win @ 13/10

Arbroath v Montrose

Montrose ran out 3-0 winners against Arbroath back in August but that was on home turf and unfortunately they can’t be trusted away from Links Park.

Instead the value lies in the goal markets with a whopping 20 goals being scored in the pair’s previous five league meetings.

The 4/6 on offer for over 2.5 goals is a little too skinny so make it worth your while and back our bolder selection.

Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals @ 13/8

Berwick Rangers v East Fife

Rangers have been solid if unspectacular of late, recording three wins and two draws in seven games since they were hammered 5-0 by Gary Naysmith’s Fifers earlier in the season.

Their home record is fairly decent too with their one defeat in five coming against the league leaders.

Therefore, it’s not too wild to suggest that the hosts could frustrate their opponents this weekend and at least take a share of the spoils.

Best Bet: Berwick Draw No Bet @ Evens

Clyde v Stirling Albion

Visiting Stirling threatened a mini-revival last month but their attempts to climb the table were swiftly stopped in their tracks following a run of two defeats and a draw in their last three outings.

Clyde were 1-0 winners over Albion on the opening day and that was also the scoreline when the two sides last met at Broadwood.

This looks like it’ll be another tight affair with goals at a premium.

Best Bet: Under 1.5 goals @ 3/1

East Stirling v Elgin

It’s no surprise to see Elgin odds-on given East Stirling’s run of six straight defeats but closer inspection reveals that the Highland outfit are hardly in a rich vein of form themselves.

Winless in their last four, this should be the perfect opportunity for Jim Weir’s outfit to get their season back on track.

The Black and Whites thrashed their hosts 4-0 earlier on in the campaign but it’s probably wise to go with a more conservative winning margin this time round.

Best Bet: East Stirling +1 @10/11
