Ladbrokes League 2: Montrose find form on the road

Published:

For weeks we marvelled at Montrose’s home record before defeat to East Fife finally saw the Gable Endies’ fortress breached.

However, now it’s time to celebrate a rare event – an away win for Stuart Garden’s side.

Yes, Montrose took the spoils and all three points at Hampden with Graham Webster’s fifth league goal of the season in the 50th minute the difference between them and Queen’s Park.

That result has propelled the Angus club into the top-four in Ladbrokes League 2, just two points off the leaders.

Annan Athletic are the side looking down on the rest following a 2-0 success at Arbroath.

Veteran striker Peter Weatherson put them on the path to victory early on before Ricky Little’s own goal effectively settled matters with less than 25 minutes gone.

Berwick Rangers were the other weekend winners having dispatched of bottom-side East Stirlingshire at Shielfield Park.

Nathan Shepherd had given the visitors an early lead but a Blair Henderson strike just after half-time hauled the hosts level.

Just four minutes later Darren Lavery headed home to put Rangers in front and they held on to secure a victory that leaves looking towards the right end of the table.

Elsewhere, Elgin City and Clyde were forced to settle for a point each at Borough Briggs.

Daryl McHardy converted from a corner to put Elgin ahead, only for 39-year-old Marvin Andrews to equalise just before the half-hour mark.

And finally, East Fife were held at home to struggling Stirling Albion, a result which knocked them off top spot.

League top scorer Nathan Austin opened the scoring with a neat lob for Gary Naysmith’s outfit but Albion’s Willie Robertson restored parity in the second-half to hand his team a precious point.
