The Weekly Acca: We’ve made Arsenal our lock of the week

Published:

In case you’ve been living under a rock during the past week, Arsenal are pretty hot property right now. We’ve also been seduced by their charms and that’s why they’re this week’s acca banker.

Plumping for Everton to beat Manchester United in our previous article was perhaps a little ambitious.

So, this time round we’re playing it safe(r) by backing the Gunners and four other hot-shot selections.

Sorted.

Arsenal to beat Everton

Some might think this selection is leaving the traditional Saturday acca hanging but we reckon it’ll be worth the wait.

The Gunners are nailed on to triumph against Everton in the evening kick-off. The Toffees haven’t won away at Arsenal since 1996, a run that spans 21 games in all competitions.

And with Arsene Wenger’s side firing on all cylinders at present it’s fairly safe to presume that trend will continue.

Brighton to beat Preston

All hail the Championship leaders and comeback kings. Brighton have survived a few scares recently but the Seagulls won’t have to worry too much against Preston.

The visitors may have beaten hapless Charlton in midweek but they won’t be able to cope with this test.

Albion are unbeaten in their last six at home, winning five of those contests. More of the same please.

Burton v Port Vale

Team in need of a lift?

If you’re Burton boss Jimmy–Floyd Hasselbaink the thought of Port Vale rocking up to the Pirelli Stadium should provide one.

The Brewers have gone off the boil a little recently but their visitors’ form is far more concerning.

Vale have now lost three of their last four matches in all competitions and four of their previous five on the road.

Oxford to beat Barnet

Poor home form has been Oxford’s Achilles heel in recent seasons but it seems the U’s are determined to put that right.

Michael Appleton’s outfit are unbeaten in 11 games at the Kassam Stadium, winning six of those contests.

Unfortunately for Bees fans, it looks unlikely that inconsistent Barnet will trouble that statistic.

Bayer Leverkusen to beat Stuttgart

Hopefully Leverkusen have recovered sufficiently from their thrilling 4-4 draw with Roma in midweek to plunder three points at home to Stuttgart.

Bayer were frustrated by Hamburg last weekend but they’re a better side than their recent Bundesliga form suggests.

The toiling visitors have lost on each of their last three trips to the BayArena and another defeat is in store here.
