Would reunion with former boss get Chelsea star shining?

| 28.10.2015

Since a bountiful 2010/11 season working together at FC Porto, Radamel Falcao and Andres Villas-Boas’ careers haven’t quite remained on the same successful path.

Falcao is the latest punchline for costly failed strikers at high-reaching Premier League clubs, while AVB is rebuilding his reputation, successfully it has to be said, at Zenit St Petersburg after short stints with Chelsea and Tottenham.

Although he is widely expected to leave the Russian side at the end of the season, transfer rumours suggest the Portuguese manager wants to reunite with Falcao at Zenit, via a January loan.

For that to happen both Monaco, who still own the Colombian, and Chelsea must agree to cancel the striker’s current temporary stay at Stamford Bridge which, considering Falcao’s failure to impress, isn’t unthinkable.

A move to Zenit, while appearing a little leftfield, would actually make perfect sense for the 29-year-old. Not only would there be a reunion with the manager that helped him win a treble, but it would also realign him with Hulk, the Brazilian forward who shared 74 goals with Falcao that season.

Having yet to feature for the Blues in the Champions League either, moving to Russia would allow the former Atletico Madrid man to feature in that competition again.

Zenit are the only team to retain a 100 percent record during this season’s group phase, yet sit at lengthy 40/1 shots to lift the trophy.

Should Falcao arrive and recapture his pre-World Cup form, that price may just shrink a smidgen.

More important than grandiose dreams of Champions League wins though, is the return to form of one of football’s best strikers. In turn, if AVB can help him score regular goals again, Falcao’s strikes may help his boss to return to the managerial big time.
