ATP Tour Finals – Day Two: Murray to kickoff with Ferrer win

After Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer both completed day-one wins in the Stan Smith group at the ATP World Finals, the focus switches to the Ilie Nastase group and the commencement of Andy Murray’s campaign.
Here’s a rundown of the four matches scheduled for the day, with a brief overview of each:
Andy Murray v David Ferrer
The Scot comes into his first outing of the competition as the world number two, yet is a distant third favourite in the betting to take the title at 10/1.
That’s because Murray has a relatively poor record at the season-ending showpiece. His best result at the O2 is a semi-final spot, achieved three times and most recently in 2012.
A golden opportunity presents itself this year however, with both Djokovic and Federer drawn in the opposing group. Murray starts his pursuit to finish 2015 as the Serbian’s closest rival, which would be sealed should he win two matches, against Spaniard David Ferrer.
The pair have met twice in this arena and won one each, but Murray has taken all of the last four against the world number seven and has prevailed in 11 of his 17 career battles with him.
Ladbrokes make the Scot 1/4 to add to that tally, with Ferrer available at 3/1.
Stan Wawrinka v Rafael Nadal
Having taken over as French Open champion from Nadal this year, Wawrinka has the opportunity to extend his recent run of positive results against the Spaniard when they meet in London.
All of the Swiss’ three career wins over Nadal have come in the last four battles.
The Manacor native has never won the ATP World Finals, he only has a longer trophy drought in one other event and arrives at the O2 having lost to Wawrinka in his latest outing.
Despite that, the Swiss is an 11/8 outsider to prevail with Ladbrokes, with Nadal favoured at 4/7.
Elsewhere:
In the Fleming/McEnroe doubles group, Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau are 4/7 favourites to open their campaign with a win against Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjic, who cling to their coattails at 5/4.
In the evening game, Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo are 1/2 to better 6/4-rated Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.
