Brazilian not the answer to Liverpool’s striker frustrations

Alexandre Pato’s name is becoming increasingly vogue among transfer gossip columns, with the Brazilian linked with a move to the Premier League on a seemingly daily basis at the moment.
West Ham were the first side rumoured to be bringing the striker to the division, but with chatter around a Hammers switch cooling, Liverpool have taken up the baton.
Currently playing in his homeland with Corinthians, Pato’s club president has claimed that an agreement to send the 26-year-old to Merseyside has been reached.
Roberto de Andrade is quoted in the Evening Standard as saying: “There is an agreement in principle with Liverpool for the transfer in the coming weeks,” but Ladbrokes News will wait until seeing promo pictures of Pato holding his new Liverpool shirt before getting too excited.
According to the report, Manchester United and Tottenham have also flirted with the idea of signing the former AC Milan man, so it seems Jurgen Klopp and his fellow transfer committee cohorts are landing something of a coup.
Known as a precocious talent while scoring 51 times in 117 Serie A games for the Rossoneri, Pato suffered a sharp decline in form after a number of injuries and was sold to Corinthians in January 2013.
The 27-cap international failed to match the expectations a £12m transfer fee brings and was been roundly criticised for his performances during his stint with Timao.
In February 2014 Pato was loaned to Sao Paulo and managed to settle into a better form, but that is seemingly not enough to convince Corinthians to keep him.
With Liverpool’s injury problems in the striking department, particularly to Daniel Sturridge, a continued frustration, it’s easy to see why Klopp would want to bolster that department.
However, there isn’t any hard recent evidence to suggest that Pato would fix those issues, his own injury record likely to only add problems to the German’s cause.
