Fantasy Football: All about the strikers in Gameweek 13

Published:

It was a case of a few surprises in the Fantasy Football as the points followed the formbook with a trio of strikers in particular delivering big on scores.

In the Ladbrokes Life League Scott Stanley continued to reign over the chasing pack, with a solid, if unspectacular week returning 65 points.

He had captain Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy to thank with the duo bringing in 31 points between them, while assists from Mesut Ozil and Riyad Mahrez backed up his front-men.

The chase for that £100 Free Bet is fierce though, and ‘Stans Army’ will have to perform better in weeks to come if they are to bag that prize, with the three teams behind within 20 points.

As far as the Ladbrokes Life quintet goes it was a barn-storming week with all but one beating the average score from around the world.

Leading the way was Mr Brightside whose attacking three of Vardy, Lukaku and Harry Kane accounting for other half of his 87 point haul.

The decision to bring in the Tottenham man and hand him the armband was an inspired one with Anthony Martial the player making way after picking up a knock.

Lukaku, and Everton in general, played a major part in a bumper showing for The Professor this week as well.

Ross Barkley (19) and Arouna Kone (5) added to the Belgian’s 12 point return.

And with that man, Kane, and Martin Skrtel and Toby Alderweireld also adding a goal or two, it was a nice return of 85 points for the bearded genius.

If only he had made someone other than Alexis Sanchez captain…

There were also sold weeks for The Believer (63 points) and Generous John (62) who saw the aforementioned strikers deliver as well.

The autosub of Branislav Ivanovic in for Wilfried Bony in the former’s team also helped matters with the Serb keeping a clean sheet and providing an assist in Chelsea’s victory over Norwich.

Trailing home last of the five chums was the Gut Truster, whose 54 points saw him fall just shy of the average score of 55 for the week.

Goals from Vardy, Lukaku and Alderweireld were the bright sparks in a fairly understated week for the man who rarely likes to over-think things.

So what does that mean for the race for the bragging rights in the five-strong league?

Generous John maintains his hold on top-spot, but while the Gut Truster had a relatively disappointing week, two new challengers have certainly emerged out of the woodwork in Brightside and the Professor.
