Forfar determined to halt slide and avoid unwelcome record

Six games into the Ladbrokes league One season and Forfar Athletic were flying. Four wins and a draw had put them top of the pile, and things were looking rosy.
However, fast-forward a month-and-a-half and the situation at Station Park isn’t so great.
Four losses in their last six games, without a win since September 12, and the Loons find themselves two points adrift from the play-off places.
Their 1-0 home defeat against bottom club Brechin City last week was the latest in a long line of disappointments, and manager Dick Campbell clearly wasn’t pleased with his side’s showing against their local rivals.
“I’m not happy with that…At the end of the day there’s something wrong here, we need to fix it and I’m the guy that can fix it,” he told the Forfar Dispatch.
The run isn’t one that Campbell has been used to since taking over the reins at the Angus club in May 2008.
Currently the longest serving manager in the SPFL, just once has Campbell gone on a seven game winless streak as Forfar boss.
The pressure will be on then when Airdrieonians visit on Saturday.
Victory over the Diamonds would not only end Athletic’s search for three points but it would also see them overhaul their opponents and reinstate themselves in the promotion play-off spots.
The hosts are 13/10 for victory, and for midfielder Bryan Hodge, one win could be the turning point.
“We just need to get back to doing what we were doing at the start of the season,” he also told the Forfar Dispatch.
“The thing is, in this league if you go on a bad run you’re all the way down, a good run and you’re right at the top. It might be the case that in six weeks we’re back near the top.”
The bookies certainly think that it will be only a matter of time before they break into the top four again too, Ladbrokes making Forfar 8/13 to be vying it out for a place in the Championship next May.
