Steve Bruce tops the list for vacant Fulham job

West London is proving a hotbed for the managerial merry-go-round in the Championship, with Fulham joining QPR in the search for a new boss.

Kit Symons was given his marching orders this weekend following a 5-2 loss to Birmingham City, and the Craven Cottage outfit are seeking their fifth manager in five years.

Current Hull gaffer Steve Bruce appears to be top of the Fulham board’s wish-list at 6/4, with the former Manchester United defender a dab hand at getting teams into the Premier League.

Bruce has lead both Birmingham City and Hull into the top tier, and with the Tigers currently sitting atop the Championship table, it’s clear Bruce hasn’t lost his touch in negotiating arguably the toughest league in England.

Hull are on a stunning run however, winning their last five league games without conceding and that in itself could provide Bruce with plenty of reason to continue his tenure at the KC Stadium.

It’s unlikely Fulham could just sweep Bruce out of Yorkshire without a fight from his current employers though, which may open the door at Craven Cottage for Slavisa Jokanovic at 4/1.

The Serbian also has strong Championship experience on his C.V, leading Watford to the Premier League last season, indeed the Hornets were moments away from the title back in May.

Ousted in the summer, Jokanovic swiftly took over at Maccabi Tel Aviv, leading them into the Champions League this season for the first time in 11 years.

He lacks Bruce’s depth of experience, but could be easier to prise away from his current role.

And what about a return to the dugout for Harry Redknapp?

The former QPR boss has been out of the game since February, but can again count promotion to the Premier League on his résumé. The 68-year-old is 5/1 for what would likely be a short-term solution.

That trio seem plenty plausible for Fulham, with each boasting experience of escaping out of England’s second tier.

Nigel Pearson and Tim Sherwood can each be backed at 8/1, followed by in-demand Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and former Championship stalwart Ian Holloway at 16s.

With Fulham boss Shahid Kahn stating this weekend that ‘it is now time to take Fulham to the next level of success’ it seems clear they’re after a man who knows how to get things done, and in particular, knows how to get the Championship done.
