Strictly week 6: Georgia’s odds tumble, Jamelia on the brink

| 02.11.2015

So long Kirsty and hello Georgia. Strictly Come Dancing’s Halloween spectacular threw up a number of talking points and market movers.

Georgia May Foote’s odds have tumbled as the challengers jockey for position behind Jay McGuiness.

Meanwhile, she may have survived a dastardly dance-off against Kirsty Gallacher but the horror show is far from over for Jamelia.

Here’s our round-up of the latest news…

Georgia may be coming good at the right time

Head judge Len Goodman labelled Georgia the ‘Queen of Halloween’ following a devilish dance to the Ghostbusters theme tune with partner Giovanni.

The pair soared to the top of the leaderboard with 35 points and punters were quick to pile in.

Georgia’s odds on claiming the Glitterball trophy have tumbled from 12/1 to 8/1 although Jay remains the hot favourite at 5/6.

Ladbrokes PR spokesman Alex Donohue said: “It doesn’t look like anyone will replace Jay at the top of the market but his main challenge now looks most likely to come from Georgia.”

They can’t dance but Jeremy and Carol are still more popular than Jamelia

Ballroom purists are often quick to decry the Strictly voting process when it allows so-called novelty acts to outstay their welcome.

And it seems the public are intent on adding fuel to this particular fire by keeping Jeremy Vine and Carol Kirkwood in the competition.

To be fair to Jeremy his salsa routine to Michael Jackson’s Thriller wasn’t awful but that’s hardly a ringing endorsement and both the BBC Radio 2 presenter and weathergirl Carol are perhaps a little fortunate to have got this far.

However, while they seem to have an army of fans pop singer Jamelia remains friendless.

She scraped through her third dance-off but odds of 10/11 for her to be the sixth contestant eliminated suggest the downtrodden Brummie is living a charmed life.
