Dundee v Aberdeen: Dons to close gap on Celtic – for a few hours

Published:

Aberdeen can close the gap on Celtic at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership to four points this week, if only of a few hours.

The Dons travel to Dundee for Saturday’s early kick-off and with Derek McInnes’ side getting back to the kind of form that saw them win their opening eight games of the season the visitors go into the tie as the 20/21 favourites.

The hosts can be backed at 11/4 but after drawing each of their last four games 1-1 the 12/5 on a share of the spoils could prove a tempting selection.

Those expecting Dundee’s unusual run to continue can get odds of 11/2 on a 1-1 draw but the form guide indicates an away win and Ladbrokes has boosted such a result.

The bookmaker has enhanced the odds on an away win with both sides scoring from 3/1 to 7/2.

And while Dundee may have only won one of their last eight games, Paul Hartley’s men haven’t been shy in front of goal, netting in each of those fixtures.

The boost looks even more attractive when the head-to-head record is taken into to account. While the Dons ran out 2-0 winners earlier this season, the previous seven meetings saw both sides find the back f the net.

With neither team struggling for goals and the match being screened live on Sky Sports it could also pay to browse the first goalscorer markets.

Thanks to Ladbrokes’ Double Odds promotion, winning first goalscorer bets will be paid out at double the odds if the first goal is scored inside the opening 25 minutes.*

With this in mind it would be churlish to overlook a punt on Dons ace Adam Rooney. Last year’s Premiership top scorer has already bagged 10 goals this term, with four of those strikes coming in his last five games.

And with five of those goals coming first in games the 7/2 on him getting things up and running this Saturday looks too good to ignore, especially when you think the odds could jump to 7/1 if he achieves the feat inside 25 minutes.
