Huge price on offer for Everton man to break Jamie Vardy’s record

Jamie Vardy’s goalscoring exploits may have come to an end after drawing a blank against Swansea at the weekend, but he can put his feet up in the knowledge that he is a Premier League record holder. But for how much longer?

The Leicester man usurped Ruud van Nistelrooy’s tally of scoring in 10 straight Premier League games with his 13th goal in 11 against Manchester United last month, earning the former non-league striker admiring glances from as far away as Valencia (allegedly).

However amazing the achievement is though, it could be that another man adorning a blue shirt will be taking Vardy’s record as soon as next month.

Romelu Lukaku netted a late equaliser in Everton’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday night, to bring up his Toffees tally to 50 goals on the same day he made his 100th appearance for the club.

His close range effort at Goodison Park means the Belgian has now scored in five straight Premier League fixtures, and he shows no sign of letting up.

He’s got seven games to continue that form if he is to break Vardy’s record at the earliest possible opportunity, and Ladbrokes have had their say on the likelihood, offering odds of 500/1 he surpasses the Englishman’s tally.

There is plenty of reason to believe he can continue that run a little while longer at least, with trips to Norwich, who have kept just one clean sheet all season and Newcastle, the Premier League’s leakiest defence taking on Everton before the New Year.

In between those fixtures Everton host Leicester, and while their goal-scoring prowess is well advertised, did concede two goals on both occasions the clubs met last term.

Things get a bit trickier with ties against Stoke, Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea to round things off, but hey, this is a 500/1 shot.

Not only would the record be some achievement for Lukaku, to do so against his old club that failed to give him a regular starting spot, might just add to the occasion for the top-flight’s second-highest goalscorer this term.
