Klopp’s former Dortmund pupil ‘agrees’ to join him at Liverpool

It is starting to feel inevitable that at least one player managed by Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund will be arriving at Liverpool in January, with Kevin Grosskreutz’s name joining the expanding shortlist.
Media reports in Turkey are now claiming the nuts and bolts of a deal are already in place for the right-sided Germany international, who only left Dortmund for Galatasaray at the 11th hour of this summer’s transfer window.
However, failure to submit documentation within the time frame on Galatasaray’s behalf has led to Grosskreutz being left in a state of limbo, banned from appearing for the Turkish champions until the commencement of the January transfer window.
Turkish publication Takvim suggest personal terms between the 27-year-old wideman and Liverpool are already agreed, despite Grosskreutz penning a three-year deal with Galatasaray at the beginning of September.
According to the same article, the former Dortmund utility player is quoted as telling current Gala manager Mustafi Denizli, “I want to leave.”
As an integral figure in Klopp’s double Bundesliga title-winning side at the Signal Iduna Park, it makes sense that Liverpool’s boss would take a keen interest in saving him from his current predicament.
Used predominantly as a right winger for Dortmund, Grosskreutz developed a reputation as a hard-working, versatile player under Klopp, able to fill in comfortably at right-back or even in central midfield.
This profile could be very handy indeed to the Reds boss who has been forced into overworking current first-choice right-back Nathaniel Clyne since taking the Anfield job due to a lack of viable options.
Jon Flannagan is thought to be making good progress towards a return, though there is no telling if he will come back as the player he was after such a lengthy spell injured, meaning cover is certainly required.
