Lennon departs Alloa after results ‘not good enough’

Danny Lennon has resigned from his post as Alloa Athletic manager with the side nine points adrift at the foot of the Ladbrokes Championship.
A 2-0 loss away at Dumbarton on Saturday was Lennon’s final game in charge, having joined the Recreation Park club in April.
The 46-year-old helped steer Alloa away from relegation last season, but the side have struggled to keep up the pace this time around.
Speaking of his departure, Lennon told the Alloa club website: “I’m the first to hold my hands up and say that our run of results this season has not been good enough.
“A number of factors have contributed to this but I take full responsibility.”
Paddy Connelly will take temporary charge of the team, with his first job being a trip back to Dumbarton in a Scottish Cup clash tonight.
Alloa are 4/1 to win and avenge Saturday’s 2-0 league defeat at the Dumbarton Football Stadium, before they head to Livingston in the Championship at the weekend.
Maintaining the club’s interests foremost, Lennon explained how a departure now allows Alloa and a new manager time to adapt.
“I would like to give the club time to find someone else before the transfer window opens up in January and provide a new manager with the opportunity to influence any personnel changes they see fit for the second half of the season.”
Athletic are 1/4 to go down into Ladbrokes League One, but should the club find the right man to take over, there is still plenty of time to launch another successful escape act.
