Rosy World Darts C’ship price available on game’s greatest ever

Since the creation of the PDC in 1994, there have only been four World Darts Championships out of 22 where Phil Taylor hasn’t been a finalist.

That in itself is an awesome record, but the fact that the Stoke-on-Trent native has triumphed on 14 occasions is a testament to his durability and resounding success.

It can be of little surprise then that Ladbrokes make Taylor the closest rival to runaway favourite Michael van Gerwen. The bookie give the Dutchman an even-money chance of claiming a second world crown, while The Power is available at 9/2.

Or at least he was.

In the run-up to start of the land’s favourite festive sporting event, Taylor’s price to reign supreme has been boosted by the bookie to 11/2.

If the 9/2 was an attractive price about darts’ most dominant figure, then the boosted offering is sure to gain even more support. With that in mind, Ladbrokes are limiting stakes to a maximum of £25.

Taylor’s naysayers will point to the fact that the 55-year-old hasn’t won any of the year’s major tournaments as a sign of his fading skill levels. In that time the Power has only reached one final, where he was beaten by Van Gerwen.

That defeat, as every loss on TV tends to with Taylor, seemed to motivate him to come back stronger at Alexandra Palace. Having been similarly written off only to reach the final at last year’s World Championships, few would be surprised to see him contesting the title match this time around.
