What to look out for in the second half of Ladbrokes SPFL

It’s proving to be another dramatic campaign throughout the leagues in Ladbrokes SPFL, and luckily for us all there’s still half a season of action and entertainment to come.

With no side running away with it in any division, everything is still very much up for grabs as Scottish football heads into 2016.

Will Celtic fend off Aberdeen’s advances? Can Rangers outdo Hibernian and return to the top flight? And just who will prevail in the ultra-competitive League 2?

Here’s how things stand and what’s to come…

Ladbrokes Premiership

Much like last season, Aberdeen are giving it their all to claim a first league title since 1985. Celtic are heavy favourites at 1/50 but the Dons – 14/1 shots – look like keeping it interesting for a long time yet.

The clash between the title contenders on February 3 could have a big say in who claims this season’s trophy.

Expect a huge scrap for third between Hearts, St Johnstone and Ross County, with the victor of that claiming a Europa League place. Don’t rule out Partick either who are in stunning form.

At the bottom Dundee United desperately need points sooner rather than later if they’re to extend their 20-season stay in the top flight.

Meanwhile Leigh Griffiths and Adam Rooney face a fight to be the Premiership’s top  goalscorer from Ross County’s Liam Boyce.  Celtic’s Griffith’s is odds-on at 8/15, with Rooney 13/5 and in-form Boyce 6/1.

Ladbrokes Championship

The 4-2 loss to Rangers was a big blow to Hibernian’s title hopes, but they have beaten Gers once this term, and a run of 12 wins and two draws in a 14-game spell means they are still  very much in the hunt at 4/1.

Rangers remain 1/7 clear favourites, but if it’s an outsider you’re looking for to keep your spring interesting, then what about Falkirk?

At 16/1 they’re just three points off the top (albeit Rangers have a game in hand) but they beat Mark Warbuton’s men before Christmas are are on a nine-game unbeaten streak.

Down the bottom, Alloa look in danger of being cast adrift, as they urgently look to close the seven point gap on the teams above.

Rangers’ Martyn Waghorn is five goals clear in the striker’s race, and looks to have one shoe in this season’s Golden Boot award.

Ladbrokes League 1

This has been a two-horse race for some time, with Ayr trying to hang on to Dunfermline’s coattails.

The Pars hold a six-point lead heading into 2016 but the 2-0 loss at home to Ayr back in September will remind everyone that this title fight is far from over, with United perhaps the value now at 8/1.

Meanwhile third-placed Peterhead’s Rory McAllister tops the Goalscorer charts, and is 9/4 to claim the accolade ahead of Cowdenbeath’s Greig Spence at 11/4.

After losing their opening six games, Brechin have done remarkably well to put themselves in with a real shout of staying in the division, much to the chagrin of Stranraer who are 3/1 to finish bottom.

Forfar (11/1 to finish bottom) have done the opposite to Brechin. Having won their opening three fixtures, they’re currently winless in 13.

Ladbrokes League 2

You can’t take your eyes of League 2 for a second. The gap from top to bottom is just 15 points, and that could shrink further should East Stirling win their games in hand.

Annan have held a slight edge for much of the autumn, but Barry Ferguson is really making progress at Clyde and they’re the current title favourites at 15/8.

Queen’s Park (10/3) and Elgin (6/1) are also in the mix, but in truth, any one of the ten sides could go on a run and find themselves in League 1 next season such is the nature of this uber-competitive league.

On the scoring front, Elgin’s Craig Gunn and East Fife’s Nathan Austin are duking it out at 11/8 each.
