Aston Villa to continue season of struggle with Wycombe cupset

Published:

Looking at Aston Villa this season it is clear to see that there is a negative atmosphere surrounding the club, highlighted by their results on the pitch.

The Villans have only won once since their first game of the campaign and Remi Garde hasn’t done anything to convince anyone that he keep the Midlanders in the Premier League.

Fans lashed out at players and staff, with the exception of Carles Gil, as they boarded the team coach after defeat at Sunderland and this served as proof of the level of dissatisfaction around Villa Park.

This level of discord isn’t great preparation for an FA Cup tie and will help Wycombe Wanderers come good on their 14/5 price of victory.

The Chairboys are performing well in League Two and sit sixth, having only lost one of their last five.

In contrast to their top-flight opponents, there is a strong sense of positivity around Adams Park and a belief that their ambitious young manager, Gareth Ainsworth, can guide them to promotion.

Wycombe will buoyed be further by the fact that the Villans have been knocked out of a cup competition by a team outside of the Premier League four times in the last three seasons.

Ainsworth is calling on 46-year-old Barry Richardson to act as his backup keeper for this game, but there are other players to look out for in his side.

Garry Thompson is the Chairboys’ top scorer this season, notching six League Two strikes from midfield.

The 35-year-old would be a good option to go for in Ladbrokes’ Double Odds 1st Goalscorer promotion and he comes in at 7/1 to break the deadlock.

However, for those with a little more faith that the top-tier outfit will get past their lower-league opposition, it would make sense to take advantage of one of the offers for the game.

Backing Villa to win and both teams to score was priced at 3/1 and can now be backed at 4/1.

The Villans’ have let in 37 over their 20 Premier League matches this season, including five in their last two games against fellow strugglers Norwich City and Sunderland, meaning this defence should be shaky enough to let at least one goal in, even if they do manage the win.
