Dunfermline’s Allan Johnston named League 1 Manager of the Month

Dunfermline boss Allan Johnston has been rewarded for guiding his side to four wins from four last month by being named the Ladbrokes League 1 Manager of the Month for December.

Those four victories, which included 2-1 away win over title rivals Ayr – helped the Pars carve out a nine-point lead at the top of the table.

However, Johnston is refusing to get carried away with talk of a title insisting there is still a long way to go.

Upon being handed his trophy the 42-year-old said: “I’m delighted. It’s always good when you get a bit of recognition.

“We’re in a good position just now, but there are loads of games to go – we’re just past the half-way point.

“So we’re not going to get complacent, we’ve got to make sure we work even harder and keep the standards we’ve been producing week in, week out.”

A large part of the Pars’ success has been the form of Faissal El Bakhtaoui who has smashed 19 goals in all competitions so far this season.

The striker has been linked with a host of top clubs but Johnstone is adamant his best players are going nowhere.

“We can’t afford to lose any of our best players. It’s too important a season. We’ve got ambitions to win the league and you want to strengthen the team rather than weaken it,” he added.

“El Bakhtaoui is not just a goalscorer, he’s a team player, he’s skilful and his work-rate is phenomenal. He’s got everything to go on and have a bright future if he keeps progressing the way he has.”

Next up for Dunfermline is the visit of Albion Rovers – a game which sees the hosts chalked up as 2/7 favourites and could see their 1/33 title odds cut even shorter.
