Fantasy Football: Bold Believer has thrown down his Wildcard

Published:

Dark times call for drastic measures and no-one can deny that The Believer is in need of desperate help. Quite simply his Fantasy Football side are falling apart and that’s prompted wholesale changes heading into gameweek 23.

It’s a gamble but you’ve got to admire our man’s unshakable faith in his decision-making, even though he hasn’t got much to show for his efforts so far.

With regards to bragging rights it’s Generous John who still leads the way and he could prove difficult to catch if the likes of Sergio Aguero and Georginio Wijnaldum continue to put in decent performances.

Here’s what our quintet have been up to…

#TheBeliever

My team is starting to become an embarrassment and I’m a laughing stock amongst the others. I just can’t catch a break. Inconsistency in all areas of the pitch means I haven’t even made it to 1000 points yet.

Drastic changes are needed hence why I’ve decided to play my Wildcard. Smith comes into the side after impressing for Bournemouth in the last few weeks with Clyne being dropped completely following Liverpool’s poor recent displays.

The biggest change is up top with Aguero replacing Deeney. The Watford pairing was a big gamble and one that didn’t pay off and Kun seems to be back to his best with City. Those performances mean I’ve made the Argentine captain of the squad.

Meanwhile, both Ozil and Sanchez return to the line-up. while Albrighton has been axed from the starting XI in favour of Lingard but remains on the bench.

This is it. The comeback starts here!

#GenerousJohn

My haul of 64 points last week was none too shabby but a large chunk of that came from my skipper.

My decision to change the captain was fully justified given Aguero’s blistering performance earning a massive 32 points.

I’ve made one change this week and it’s Newcastle’s Gigi Wijnaldum coming in for Everton’s Ross Barkley. The Toon midfielder has had a solid first year in the Premier League and he’s hitting great form at the right time of the season, with 21 points from the last two gameweeks so let’s hope his run continues.

Aguero will once again wear the captain’s armband when City travel to Upton Park. The Argentine bagged his 10th goal of the campaign and looks refreshed and ready to make up for lost time.

As GJ mentioned, Aguero is picking up again and he’ll be a big points earner in weeks to come.

Ozil sat out the game at Stoke with a foot injury, but I’m hoping he’ll be fit to pull the strings in the Arsenal midfield against Chelsea on Sunday.

Another poor show from Watford on Monday, but I don’t think the wheels have come off just yet. I expect the Vicarage Road faithful to get behind Deeney when Newcastle come to town, and I’m confident he can add another goal to his tally.

No changes from me, although Smalling is ready to step again in should Ozil not make it.

I’m making three changes to the squad this week in an attempt to post some big numbers and make up some lost ground.

Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel and Philippe Coutinho are both injured so make way for the Manchester City duo of Bacary Sagna and David Silva.

Silva made another assist against last week to take his total to eight for the season while Sagna’s form has helped deliver nine clean sheets.

Elsewhere, Robert Huth comes in for Scott Dann. The Leicester defender has recorded three clean sheets and scored one goal in his last four games so I’m counting on him to shore up the Statletico defence.

#MrBrightside

We’re getting to the business end of the season now and at some point I’ll have to decide whether to stick or twist if I’m to have any hope of grabbing top spot.

However, this is not the week to make any rash decisions so I’m making just the one change and it’ll hopefully be of benefit in the long term.

The defence have been brilliant this year with at one clean sheet between them in EVERY gameweek so far.

I’ve made one switch in the midfield, bringing in Howson for Afellay. He’s down as the number one sub and could get points when wobbly Liverpool face Norwich.

The front three stay the same but Ighalo really needs a big week to keep his place in the team. With the Newcastle defence in front of him there’s no better time to shine.
