Ladbrokes League 2: Pressure on the rest to catch Elgin

Published:

While Elgin City have opened a gap of five points to the chasing pack, the race for the Ladbrokes League 2 title is still an open one with just nine points separating the top five.

Time is running out for anyone else to get involved while every game becomes more important than the last for those still in the reckoning.

We’ve got a full quota of fixtures to dive in to and find the value this week.

Annan Athletic v Elgin City

The leaders have won their last four in the league and have shown themselves to have found their form on the road too.

City have netted two or more in eight of their last 11 trips away from Borough Briggs and can inflict more pain on Annan here.

Athletic have lost their last four in the league and are in real danger of losing their spot in the play-off places.

Best bet: Elgin @ 6/5

Berwick Rangers v Queen’s Park

The goal drought continues for those who watch Queen’s Park week-in-week-out with their goalless draw against Stirling Albion extending the dull streak to just five goals in the last six games.

The frugal Spiders can provide another shut-out against a Berwick side that haven’t played in any thrillers lately either.

Rangers’ last three fixtures have all ended 1-0 and unfortunately for the neutral a low-scoring affair looks on the cards.

Best bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 21/20

East Fife v Clyde

Two sides who could push Elgin for the title this season clash at Bayview in a fixture that could really go either way.

The hosts have won four of their last five games and probably get the nod with home advantage, with Clyde dropping off a touch lately.

The Bully Wee have lost three of their last four, but are more than capable of giving East Fife a real game of things.

Best bet: East Fife @ Evens

East Stirling v Arbroath

These two are in very different form of late with Arbroath winning four of their last five games while their hosts have lost four of the most recent five.

The Shire have two points to make up on Berwick as they languish in 10th place in the table, though doing that looks unlikely here.

They have conceded at least two goals in five of their last six league games and might just face the same fate again.

Best bet: Arbroath -1 @ 11/5

Stirling Albion v Montrose

After a dire run Montrose have started getting some points on the board, accruing seven from the last nine available.

Both of those wins have come at home though, drawing two and losing four of their last six road trips.

Opponents Stirling haven’t scored in three games, but you would be hard pushed to say that the Gable Endies will punish their impotency in front of goal.

Best bet: Draw @ 27/10
