Arsenal’s title odds take a hit after latest stalemate

Published:

They have been Premier League favourites for much of the campaign, but Arsenal’s odds drifted once more after their draw with Southampton.

The Gunners couldn’t find a way past Fraser Forster as Arsene Wenger’s men were held to a 0-0 stalemate.

It was the third game in a row in which the north Londoners had failed to score, and they’ve now failed to win each of their last four league games.

A total of three points from a possible 12 has seen the Emirates outfit slip five points behind leaders Leicester, while Manchester City and local rivals Tottenham have pushed Arsenal into fourth.

Arsenal were odds-on favourites across much of Christmas and the New Year, but they’re now a 5/2 price for a first league title in 12 years.

The Gunners head to Bournemouth on Saturday looking to kick-start their title challenge, but they still face trips to White Hart Lane, Upton Park, Old Trafford and the Etihad before the season is over.

With a home tie against Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes coming up on Valentine’s Day, the trip to the south coast this weekend could well be argued as a must-win for Wenger and his clan.

Bournemouth have claimed seven points from the last nine available, but their last three matches have come against sides in the bottom half.

Arsenal ran out comfortable 2-0 winners when the sides met in the capital in December, and a return victory is sorely needed for the title-contenders.

The visitors are evens favourites for three points at Dean Court, while Bournemouth are available at 13/5.
