Big Man United hope looks to re-start career with Hull

Published:

Once regarded as one of Man United’s big hopes for the future, things haven’t quite worked out for Nick Powell so far at Old Trafford, but a former United legend could offer a lifeline.

Powell was much-hyped when signing for the Red Devils from Crewe in 2012, but the Englishman has made just nine appearances in four years – six of those in his first season – while being sent out on loan to Wigan and Leicester.

The 21-year-old looks set to head out temporarily once again with a deal believed to have been reached with Steve Bruce’s Hull.

The Tigers currently sit top of the Championship, and the experience of fighting for promotion to the Premier League, under an experienced manager like Bruce could be invaluable to Powell in his future career.

There is little doubting the midfielder’s talent – Powell was scouted by a host of Premier League clubs before United paid out what could total £6m.

Powell will head to a club playing some fine football at the sharp end of the Football League’s second tier, and under Bruce will find a manager known for paying attention to the younger players, in addition to a shared affinity with Old Trafford.

Hull have won nine of their last 11 games in all competitions, and it seems like an excellent place for Powell to try and kick-start a career which is yet to reach its unquestioned potential.
