Bournemouth set to recruit yet another striker

Published:

Bournemouth may have added Benik Afobe and Lewis Grabban to their front line in the transfer window but reports suggest manager Eddie Howe is still on the hunt for another striker.

Grabban returned to the club from Norwich for £7.5m, while former Arsenal man Afobe was an £8m arrival from Wolves.

Howe has also added Glenn Murray to the mix since steering the Cherries into the top tier of English football but reports suggest the Dean Court gaffer is to make a late bid for a former south coast favourite.

Jermain Defoe has slotted right back into life in the Premier League following a short spell in MLS with Toronto and Howe is hoping a £5m fee will tempt Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce to part with the veteran striker.

Bournemouth have picked up a bit of form in recent games and with Afobe netting two goals in his opening three games for the Cherries many fans expected Howe to pin his side’s survival hopes on his new hitman.

However, with the Black Cats seemingly open to offers for Defoe, Howe is hoping the former England man can prove the final piece of his striking jigsaw.

Land Defoe for £5m and Howe will have assembled a £20m+ strike force but should they fire the goals that keep the Cherries up and earn the club a slice of the new lucrative TV deal it will have been money well spent.
