Celtic make smart move by snapping up teen star

Published:

Not everybody will know the name Patrick Roberts, but by the end of his loan deal at Celtic, all Bhoys fans certainly will, after snapping up one of England’s brightest young talents.

Celtic have signed Roberts on an 18-month loan deal, and the 18-year-old Londoner will be eager to kick-start his blossoming career.

The winger courted attention with Fulham, who offered him his first professional deal and with who Roberts made his debut just a month after his 17th birthday.

A starring role in Fulham’s run to the 2014 FA Youth Cup Final – including a goal in the 7-6 aggregate defeat to rivals Chelsea, pushed the teenager into the limelight even more.

Manchester City made a huge statement of the England U19 international’s potential with a £12m offer for the Fulham star last summer.

However, having made just three appearances thus far for the Citizens, a temporary move elsewhere makes sense for both player and club.

He may be small at just 5ft 5in, but Roberts boasts plenty of pace and trickery down the flank, and isn’t afraid to get stuck in.

Celtic fans should enjoy watching this talented teen, and if Ronny Deila hands Roberts the game-time in which to flourish, Roberts could take Scotland by storm over the next 18 months.
