East Fife star aiming to out-fire Craig Gunn in top scorer battle

Ladbrokes League 2 Player of the Month Nathan Austin has his sights firmly set on becoming the division’s top-scorer this season – and he isn’t shy about admitting it.
Austin – who was last month loaned back to East Fife after completing a move to Falkirk – is currently joint-top of the scoring charts with Elgin City striker Craig Gunn, with both players on 16 goals each.
Both teams are embroiled in a title battle, but while that remains Austin’s primary focus, he admits he has one eye on outscoring Gunn.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes News he said: “I’m quite competitive when it comes to things like that.
“Obviously the team comes first but after every match I’m checking how Elgin have got on – and nine times out of ten Craig Gunn’s scored!
“But I definitely want to come top.
“Obviously I haven’t scored in the last few matches but I don’t like to go on too long a run without goals.
“It’s just one game at a time – that’s how I’ve always looked at it.”
The sponsors can’t separate the pair, with both priced at even money to come out on top in the hotly-contested battle.
Austin and his East Fife team-mates are at home to Arbroath this Saturday, while Elgin and Gunn host mid-table Clyde.
