Fantasy Football: Brightside top of the league and banking on Mahrez

| 26.02.2016

Fantasy Football is back with a bang following its FA Cup induced hiatus and ahead of kick-off we’ve got a new Ladbrokes Life League leader aiming to cement their position at the summit.

Happy chappie Mr Brightside is your man looking down on the rest of his rivals but will his team be able to maintain their momentum?

There’s little room for error as we head into Gameweek 27 while next week’s crop of midweek fixtures won’t leave much time to pause for thought.

So, without much further ado, here’s how our famous five are shaping up…

It’s been a long time coming but my persistence has finally paid off and I’m proud to see my team sitting at the top of the league.

However there’s a lot of work to be done until now and the end of the season and this week is a tough one with a lot of the big hitters not playing due to the Capital One Cup final.

But instead of panicking and transferring some of the star men I’ll reshuffle the pack to guarantee points will be scored this week without losing any key players.

Howson and Souaré lose their places with Smith and Mahrez coming in.

Following his week-off, the latter will be super hungry as Leicester prepare to host Norwich.

Meanwhile, Aguero and Firmino will drop to the bench with Kane partnering Ighalo up front.

Hopefully the Spurs striker will be able to make the starting line-up against Swansea!

I’m back up to third after scoring the best points haul in our mini-league. It seems like such a long time ago now, but a brace from Deeney helped me earn an extra 13 points as everyone else had his strike partner, Ighalo!

With the League Cup final and no fixture for Everton in this game week, it’s really hitting me hard, and there’s only so much re-shuffling you can do.

With four Man City and Everton players in my starting XI, I’ve been forced to use my free transfer to get Lukaku out, and bring back in Jamie Vardy.

The Foxes face Norwich at the KP on Saturday, and with the visitors shipping 30 goals away from home already the Vardy/Mahrez combination will be looking to capitalise and further cement their team’s place at the top of the league.

For the rest of the team, Aguero is benched for Jose Fonte who takes his place in defence alongside Chris Smalling who replaces Bacary Sagna.

Meanwhile, Nordin Amrabat comes in for Ross Barkley in midfield. Hopefully the Watford man will get a good run out as they face Bournemouth at home.

The football gods giveth and taketh away – an average gameweek last time out means my time in third-place was short-lived.

Leicester’s defeat at the Emirates saw my high-flyers Robert Huth and Riyad Mahrez disappoint, picking up just one point each.

Bringing in Dimitri Payet for David Silva saved me some embarrassment as his 13 points really carried the team, meanwhile Mesut Ozil was true to form, grabbing another assist to add to his tally.

Everton aren’t in action this weekend but with lowly Aston Villa  up next I’m holding on to Romelu Lukaku for now and keeping him on the bench.

I’m making Riyad Mahrez my captain and banking on him to put in a good performance against a Norwich side who haven’t won since the beginning of January. My only change this week is bringing in Cesar Azpilicueta for Bacary Sagna.

Like the others, my line-up and formation has been thrown out of the window this weekend owing to cancelled fixtures.

This means I’m missing two of my main point bankers in Aguero and Barkley but I’m totally convinced in their replacements.

Some other big news comes in the way of transfers. Ever since Sanchez has came back from injury he’s failed to regain his past form and so gets the boot from the squad but also nets me some valuable cash.

Dele Alli has been one of the sensations of the season and rightfully comes into the starting XI and with some of the leftover cash I’ve brought in Monreal for Bournemouth’s Smith.

It’s finally happened…I’ve been overtaken by Brightside! A poor last round opened the door and my mate happily walked straight through to snatch the lead.

I now trail by trail by three points and will need to have a good week if i’m to reclaim top spot.

With my squad depleted I’ve been forced to make three transfers this week and also take a four-point hit.

Aguero, Barkley and Lukaku are all out for this weekend’s Premier League fixtures and they’re the three that make way for Kane, Giroud and Payet.

Payet was scintillating in West Hams’s FA Cup game, with two goals and an assist against Blackburn.

The midfield maestro looks back with a bang and he’s got the armband for this week.
