League 2 star interesting QPR, but he may need Stoke’s help

It’s six goals in as many 2016 Oxford appearances for Kemar Roofe, with his FA Cup double against Swansea almost certainly increasing his prospects of securing a high-profile move in the January transfer window.

QPR appear the most likely to oblige, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink already thought to have test the water with a bid of £3m for the former West Brom youngster.

However, despite receiving £4m from Southampton for Charlie Austin, there is the thought that QPR will have to sell again before making a purchase.

Winger Matt Phillips is the player mentioned in any Roofe talk, with the 24-year-old subject to a £5m bid from West Brom in the summer, which was turned down.

The Baggies are said to be in pursuit again, but the loan capture of Alex Pritchard from Tottenham has already enhanced their attacking capacity.

Another team that could do with strengthening in the wide-man department is Stoke, who are slightly short of options below Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic.

Given that the former has had his injury problems and the latter is playing hard ball over signing a contract extension, depth in this department is necessary for Mark Hughes, with the likes of Jon Walters and Mame Biram Diouf far from naturals on the flanks.

Five goals and four assists is a decent return from Phillips this term in a team that has to be considered as underachieving, with his dribbling capable of bringing a new layer of unpredictability to Stoke’s attacks.

Only bottom club Aston Villa, Swansea and West Brom have netted fewer than Stoke’s 24 Premier League goals through 23 games this season and Phillips is also a fan of shooting from distance, which may improve their goal tally.
