AW C’ships: Grendisar to stroll away from Easter Classic field

Over £1m of prize money is up for grabs over the course of seven races at Lingfield’s third annual All Weather Championships this Easter.
Some well-fancied favourites mix with wide-open renewals across the card and Ladbrokes News takes a look at each with a view to finding the winner:
William Haggas’ 4/6 favourite Cold As Ice undeniably has the best form in the race, having finished third in the Cleves Stakes at the course last time out, but she is hamstrung by a high draw.
At a tight, left-handed track like Lingfield, it pays to follow the low stalls and, in the third, sits Volunteer Point.
The four-year-old has racked up consecutive Class 2 wins, is a course and distance scorer and appeals each way at odds of 9/2.
As the race name suggests, they’ll go a ferocious gallop in the Sprint Championship, which could leave 9/4 market-leader Lancelot Du Lac a lot to do considering he’s in the 13th of 14 stalls.
Instead, four-year-old Goken gets the nod at 3/1. Drawn in box one, Kevin Ryan’s “exciting” young star has contested Group 1s before now and was a victor at Lingfield last time out in a Class 1 despite carrying top weight.
Impeded at a crucial time of his last run, 6/1 shot Ballynanty could well have claimed the scalp of 2015 Marathon runner up Anglophile on his last run.
His trainer, Andrew Balding, had the winner in last year’s renewal with a progressive four-year-old and Ballynanty is taken to ensure lighting strikes twice.
In Ladbrokes’ sponsored event, look no further than Mister Universe at 6/1.
He’s a proven Lingfield performer having taken both appearances, has tactical flexibility and beat the shorter priced Sovereign Debt a neck last time out over an unsuited trip. Favourite Mindurownbusiness flopped in this last year.
11/10 is a price full of value for Grendisar for the feature race on the card. Not out of the frame in any of his last four starts over 10 furlongs and winning the last two, Marco Botti’s favourite has had this division at his mercy of late and faces weak opposition here.
The market looks to have found it very difficult to separate leading pair Gracious John and Wolowitz at 11/8 and 11/4 respectively.
That duo look to have leading claims on the form and it could be worth a permutation of them in a forecast.
Haalick is slim favourite for this over Race Day at a price of 7/4, having beat the 7/2 shot by two-and-a-half lengths last time out.
Roger Varian’s market principle is taken to improve that victory length here thanks to a draw in the first stall.
