Derek McInnes: Aberdeen’s season starts now

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has told his players that a 10-game mini season starts now and a consistent run could see them lift the title.

The Dons currently sit just four points behind Ladbrokes Premiership leaders Celtic after their 1-0 win over Dundee United coincided with the Bhoys’ 0-0 draw at home to Dundee.

McInnes claimed a win over the Terrors was vital after his side “needlessly” shipped two points at the weekend and the gaffer has called upon his squad to build on this latest victory to go on a run.

“We move on with 10 games to go. We’ve got a 10 game season and we’re confident we can win and keep everybody interested.

“We’ve been given every encouragement from the last couple of results. People said we hadn’t maximised Saturday’s opportunity, and we didn’t – it was a missed opportunity.

“But we did say there are still plenty points to play for and it’s our job to get as many of those as possible.”

Aberdeen are still deemed as outsiders in the title race at 9/1, while Celtic remain 1/25 favourites to retain their crown.

Next up for the Dons is a trip to Firhill Stadium to take on Partick Thistle but with relegation-threatened Motherwell and Kilmarnock also coming up Aberdeen look well placed to capitalise on any further mishaps from the league leaders.
