Ladbrokes Championship: St Mirren Win Is A Huge Step Towards Safety

Published:

A composed late strike from Keith Watson gave St Mirren all three points against struggling Alloa at the Indodrill Stadium in a tight game.

The 1-0 win gives Alex Rae’s side a 10-point cushion over Livingston in the relegation playoff spot, though Livi do have a game in hand on the Paisley Club.

The result leaves Alloa adrift at the bottom, with the Buddies now 24 points ahead of the stricken Wasps.

While the playoffs are probably a bridge too far for Alex Rae’s men, they are now just two points behind fifth-placed Greenock Morton, meaning that a top-half finish is possible.

St Mirren did ride their luck in the Alloa game, however, with the Wasps’ boss Jack Ross subsequently telling the Alloa Advertiser “we were the better team by a stretch”.

However, the away side prevailed, keeping their first clean sheet in five matches to record their second successive away win, following a 3-2 triumph at relegation-battling Livingston.

The Buddies’ next assignment is a home game against Hibernian, who have lost their last four league games. With three wins from their last four fixtures, St Mirren are likely to be of interest at 4/1 to win, with a draw 3/1 and a Hibs victory priced at 8/13.

With Hibernian having conceded three goals against Greenock Morton and Dumbarton during the past six weeks, St Mirren’s strikers may well fancy their chances to notch a few goals and we’re offering 80/1 on a 3-0 win for the home side.
