Ladbrokes Premiership: United tipped for Dundee Derby success

Published:

Celtic may travel to Killie in the early kick-off to get the Ladbrokes Premiership action started this weekend but there is plenty of intrigue elsewhere in Scotland’s top flight.

Aberdeen travel to Motherwell hoping to keep pace with the league leaders, while Hearts will hope to extend their winning run to five games as they welcome St Johnstone to Tynecastle.

The highlight of the weekend, however, is the Dundee Derby and while they may be bottom of the pile at present, Mixu Paatelainen’s men are being tipped to bag three points and the bragging rights at Tannadice.

Here’s the Ladbrokes News lowdown on this weekend’s matches…

Hamilton v Partick Thistle

The Accies may have won last time out but that is their only victory in five attempts but they will hope to at least avoid defeat against a Thistle side coming into the match on the back of three straight losses.

The last three meetings between these clubs have ended all square and a share of the spoils could be on the cards again.
Best Bet: Draw @ 2/1

Hearts v St Johnstone

They may have played out a goalless draw last time they met but recent meetings between the Jambos and the Saints have been extremely pleasing – for neutrals at least.

The two games before that bore draw saw a total of 13 goals with Hearts winning 4-3 in one and the other ending 3-3. The Jam Tarts will be expected to win but backing another goal fest could provide better value.
Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals at 11/4

Motherwell v Aberdeen

The Dons are hoping for Celtic to slip up in the title run-in but in the meantime they need to keep winning and with maximum points at the last three times of asking they are doing just that.

Such form sees the visitors go into this game as heavy favourites but this fixture is always tight with eight of the last nine seeing less than four goals and the Dons winning just one of the last five by more than a single goal.
Best Bet: Under 3.5 goals @ 1/3

Ross County v Inverness CT

The Staggies have won just one of their last five meetings with the Caley Jags but will hope to improve that run against a Thistle side coming into the match on the back of three successive defeats.

County may currently be fourth but with just four points between them and seventh-placed Dundee a top half side of the split is not yet assured.
Best Bet: Ross County to win @ 21/20

Dundee United v Dundee

The Dees are five places and 16 points better off than their rivals but with just two wins from the last 14 derbies the “away side” will be cautious here.

United have won nine of those meetings and with the Dark Blues winning just one of their last five the hosts come into the game in better form,

A win could prove a massive step towards safety of the Terrors so expect them to put everything into this game.
Best Bet: Dundee United to win @ 7/5
