Mourinho not worth breaking records for Man Utd

The Jose-Mourinho-to-Manchester-United rumour has been going on ever since the Portuguese boss left Chelsea in December.

Louis van Gaal has had to deal with a lot of speculation over his position in the Old Trafford dugout and that doesn’t look like stopping.

The Sun is now reporting that the Red Devils are prepared to offer the former Real Madrid man a £60m-a-year contract to come to Manchester.

This would make Mourinho the highest paid manager ever and he doesn’t seem worthy of that accolade.

Firstly, Van Gaal still has a job to do at Old Trafford and after the 1-0 win over Manchester City in their most recent outing, the Red Devils still have a chance of making the top four.

Qualifying for the Champions League would give the Dutch man some leverage in keeping his position and also something to build on moving forward.

The former Barcelona manager has brought through a number of young players this season, notably Marcus Rashford who scored the winner against City, and looks to be building a long-term project.

Getting rid of Van Gaal now risks seeing some of Louis’ lads fall by the wayside and, for a club that prides it self on developing talent, this would seem like a huge waste.

Despite Mourinho’s many accolades, it’s difficult to think of any youngsters that he has brought through during his times at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

His strategy is more based on short-term success where he spends heavily and achieves two good seasons at a club, specialising in making good teams great.

This is not what Man Utd need at the moment and simply throwing money at the problem isn’t going to solve it and the Red Devils require somewhere who can overhaul everything.

Bringing Mourinho in to do this would not be wise and could see them fall either further behind moving forward and the United board need to think carefully before parting with any money.
