St Helens and Wigan set for another epic Good Friday derby clash

The odds suggest we’re in for another classic in one of rugby league’s most fiercely contest derbies today, when St Helens host Wigan in their annual Good Friday clash.

There are few games in the world of rugby league that match the intensity, skill and atmosphere of a Saints-Wigan derby, and today’s clash has all the makings of another epic encounter.

Last season’s beaten Grand Finalists Wigan are slight favourites at 4/5 to claim the two points, while hosts St Helens are 11/10 in a game which looks too close to call.

The two sides are separated by just two points in the Super League table, and a win for St Helens by more than four points in a meeting that is notoriously tight, low-scoring and often ill-tempered would see them leapfrog their bitter rivals into third place.

St Helens took the spoils in both of their home outings against Shaun Wane’s side last year, with the Warriors claiming a victory when they met in Wigan last Easter.

Wigan have been boosted by the return of Joel Tomkins to their 19-man squad, a player with plenty of derby experience and good personal form against the Saints. He has scored in his last two outings against St Helens and is 5/2 to cross the line today.

Four of the last five meetings between the two sides have been settled by less than ten points either way and it is 12/5 for that pattern to continue in Saints’ favour or 11/5 for Wigan to win by 1-10 points.
