Arsenal keeping close tabs on Lukaku (no not that one)

| 07.04.2016

Arsenal are being increasingly linked with a move for Romelu Lukaku’s younger brother Jordan, with the defender impressing this season in his native Belgium.

Lukaku Jr has been a mainstay for KV Oostende this season, with his side riding high in the Belgian Pro League and his performances have also seen the left-back make his way into the national reckoning too.

Spanish news outlet Fichajes have claimed the Gunners are keen on snapping up the 21-year-old as understudy to Nacho Monreal and have been scouting the defender in recent weeks.

Speculation surrounding Kieran Gibbs’s future at the Emirates has increased this term, with the Englishman failing to oust Monreal as Arsene Wenger’s preferred left-back.

Gibbs’ hopes of a run in the first team were also dealt a blow in January when Monreal signed a new contract, and it is increasingly likely that the 26-year-old will look for first team football elsewhere in this summer.

Nine years younger than Monreal however, Lukaku would give Arsenal longevity in the left-back role, and valued by transfermarkt.co.uk at £1.88m, the red half of north London wouldn’t have to shell out the big money.

The defender’s contract is up at the end of next season too, further strengthening Arsenal’s position at the negotiation table.

Like his brother, Lukaku Jr seems set for big things, the question is will Arsenal follow up on their interest?

With their main rivals set to spend big this summer, Wenger can ill-afford to repeat his strategy last year where he failed to sign a single outfield player.
