Arsenal on alert after Real end Aubameyang interest

Arsenal’s chance of winning the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s hotshot striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been handed a huge boost, if comments from BvB’s CEO are anything to go by.

The Gunners are set for a major overhaul this summer as they bid to bring regular success back to the red half of north London, and Aubameyang has long-been linked with a move to the Emirates.

Spanish giants Real Madrid were also in the hunt for the striker however, but Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke has poured cold water on rumours of a move to the Bernabeu.

Speaking to Welt an Sonntag, Watzke said: “Aubameyang’s Madrid dream? You can count on it that I would know if Madrid had the same dream.”

“I have a great relationship with Madrid president Florentino Perez and I think I would know if they wanted him,” he added.

Manchester United are also rumoured to be chasing the signature of the 26-year-old, who has netted a stunning 36 goals this term.

With a contract running until 2020 however, Arsene Wenger is going to have to very likely smash his club’s transfer record, currently standing at £38.2m for Mesut Ozil in 2014.

The pressure will be on the Frenchman to make significant signings this summer however, especially if the Gunners fail to land the Premier League title.

With Real Madrid out of the running however, that’s a major hurdle out of Arsenal’s way in the chase for one of Europe’s finest strikers.
