Barcelona can still win the league, says Gerard Pique

Barcelona may have seen their recent struggles continue at the weekend but defender Gerard Pique is adamant the Catalan giants can and will win La Liga.

After losing 2-1 at home to Valencia over the weekend Luis Enrique’s side saw their points lead at the top of the table disappear, with just goal difference separating the Nou Camp club from Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid just a point further back in third.

However, Pique claims the way his side played against Valencia suggests a return to winning ways is on the horizon.

“We can’t be worried when you look at the way we’re playing,” he said.

“If we play like this we’ll win the league, I’m convinced of that. Although it’s a step backwards, playing this well will help the team mentally. We’ve recovered the sensations from a month ago.”

The betting seems to back up the former Manchester United’s centre-back’s claims, with Barca still odds-on to claim the title at 1/2.

Atleti are second favourites at 3/1, while Real can be backed at 4/1 after their 5-1 thumping of Getafe breathed new life into their own title tilt.

Barca are next in action against Deportivo La Coruna and go into the game as 1/5 favourites to claim all three points and maintain their gap at the top of the league.

Depor can be backed at 12/1 to cause Enrique’s men more misery, with the draw on at 11/2 but with their backs to the wall and Pique’s words ringing in their ears a return to winning ways looks likely for the visitors.
